They all know they need to keep it around but, nonetheless, confidence always makes a point of ghosting them when they need it the most. The best love-hate relationship in pro tennis. Ask Iga Swiatek!
Well the problem that women's tennis has is that sport unfortunately right now is all based on attracting viewers based on those who perform the best in ability so because men's tennis exhibits the highest level of tennis available, men's tennis tends to attract more viewers than women's tennis which is just the reality. However, if sport is not based on pure competitive ability but more on promoting sport for the pure enjoyment of the public, then women's tennis would have no problem in attracting as many viewers as men's tennis.
Hmmm women's tennis has regularly attracted more viewers than men's tennis... And the concept of "highest level of tennis available" being restricted to men's tennis is also easy to challenge depending on which matches you have a look at through the year...
I'm really not here to do your education about women's tennis. You might want to do it yourself first and then come to comment on it. And you really want to challenge your misconceptions. have a great Sunday!
Great discussion on the power of confidence. I was surprised when Djoker didn't announce his retirement last year after winning the Olympics - talk about a mic drop! Maybe that was just me remembering how iconic Bartoli's retirement was after she won Wimbledon! :)
It will be interesting to see how the rest of Iga's season goes. Like you, I wonder if she'll benefit from having her points drop, her ranking decline, and expectations lowered... maybe it will allow her to reset?
Had he already won the Grand Slam title n°25, I'm sure he'd have retired after that gold medal. In retrospect, a bit like Rafa when he won his last Roland-Garros on one leg, you'd think that it might have been The Moment. Pete Sampras way. Also for Novak, it still looks a bit like his career stopped there, as far as his motivation is concerned. But he wasn't that far in Melbourne... Andy departing ain't a good news. But also when you look at the whole Big 4, none of them got their fairytale ending, also because they lasted so so long that it's hard for them to go... They were like, you never know, maybe I can do it again!
